African Safari - 2026

Tuesday 13 October'26 - Amboseli National Park/Nairobi (Kenya)

Like all good things, we have come to an end.   This morning was our last safari before heading back to the lodge for lunch and then a 4ish hour drive back to Nairobi.   As usual, the "locals" were out in force to say hello.   At this point I should mention that despite on check-in being warned about the monkeys AND the vast number of signs around the resort providing the same warning, I made the mistake of opening the sliding screen door to the room and then turning my back for milliseconds to grab the camera and lo and behold, in flashed one, straight to the tea and coffe tray and stole the sugar satchels.  Once I had caught my breath, I shut the door only to have him come back, stand there defiantly and "woof" them down, paper and all before scamping off into the bush.   Cheeky monkey!!!   You'll notice the 2nd last shot shows one "helping himself" to someones deodorant whilst their bags were waiting to be loaded into their jeep and the last one shows them in a rather strange position 😱.

And then it was off on the last safari at 0700, before heading back to the lodge around 1230 and 30minutes later, back in the Land-cruiser  and the journey began towards Nairobi.   The wetlands has plenty of activity and apart from the Superb Starling, there were plenty of Egyptian Geese.   Apart from the usual suspects of Zebras, Wildebeest and Impalas, there were of course elephants in abundance, something the park is renowned for.   A large herd was heading to the marshes after sleeping in the bush overnight and the video at the end is a bull that had "attitude"...   The next group of photos are of the plains, a few more inhabitants and the many view of Mount Kilimanjaro.

And then, it was all over.   Or was it?  Once we hit the highway there was still a few surprises...  I thought it would be unfair not to allow you to share the experience of driving along the roads within the national parks and the video (shot by Rene), sums up the "joys".   Just after turning onto the highway, more nature to encounter, including a Male Gerenuk.   These antelopes

have a slightly longer neck than others

and have a penchant for eating the highest branches they can reach.   The trip to Nairobi was expected to be around 4 hours but due to the number of trucks on the road and traffic in the city, it took just over 6 hours to our destination.
