VIETNAM/CAMBODIA - 2025
Sunday 25 May'26 - Siem Reap (Cambodia)
Today was Angkor Wat.. Amazing (#1-18)!!! It was built in the early 12th century and was the King’s residence for 37 years. The work of the artisans was unbelievable & the Archaeological Restoration team are now in the process of “copying” the old language around the site, that is prevalent on so many parts of the site so it is saved for the future & scholars can interpret what it says. The next step was to climb to the top of the temple, but my knees said, “NO!”. I stole a photo from the top from another group member.
Again, my technical mind was blown away by the fact that the axis of the whole site is perfectly aligned with the compass. After that amazing experience, off to our last lunch as a group (#27). I have to say, the meals provided within the tour cost, which were over 90% of those required, were fantastic. Then back to the hotel for free time before an 1830 pickup for dinner.
Before heading off to dinner, the male members of the “team” had a photograph taken in in our “walk out uniform”. We negotiated a “special price” fat the night markets the night before.
Dinner was a traditional Cambodian Dance performance with a spectacular buffet. The dance
performance was spellbinding (#29-35). The Peacock Dance was something special. Then back to beddy byes!!!
Monday 26 & Tuesday 27 May'26 - Siem Reap (Cambodia)/Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam)/Sydney/Canberra
Mid morning departure from the hotel to the airport fro our return flight to Australia with a connection in Ho Chi Minh City. The Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport was very knew and had a very impress statue in it. As is the case when flying back to Oz (usually), the flight left in the evening and arrived early the next day. A most enjoyable holiday and highly recommend it. The people are so friendly and food is absolutely terrific... I have added a couple of photos that you may enjoy. The 1st being a message we were sent
prior our arrival at one of our hotels which shows how difficult English, as a language, is. The other being the iconic Vietnamese hat I bought to put on my minion, which made him an official Ho Chi Minion!!!
