SCandinavian Cruises - 2026
Sunday 10 May'26- Bergen (Norway)
Our 1st port of call today and you know you are a fair way north on the earth when sunrise was at 0513 and sunset will be 2204 this evening. We docked about half an hour early (1030), so off the merry band of 4 trundled to the Fløibanen (Floyen Furnicular). About a 15 minute walk from the dock but allowed us to look at things as we walked. It was a cool 6' when we left the ship, but ok. What a shock we were in for! When we got to the top, we were greeted with a rather chilly wind and a few minutes later, a nice little sleet squall set in.
A few minutes later, it started to snow! We then set off on a 10 minute walk further up the mountain to Skomakerdiket, a lake. The snow was gently falling all the way to the lake but the wind had died down so it was gently falling and upon reaching the lake, we preceded to walk around it to the cafe for an obligatory hot chocolate and pancake . Very nice indeed. After a little rest, back down the mountain to the funicular station, a look through the shop before heading back down to Bergen but the weather was certainly showing its variances. The next photo was as we were about to leave the one after is a few minutes later! Just shows how quickly the weather changes! The girls then wanted to visit Trekroneren, a world famous hotdog stand that features amongst its wide range of "dogs", a reindeer one... The photo of the stand is a web based stock image as the queue was HUGE and I couldn't get a shot worthy of the place. Next stop was Fisketorget (the Fish markets) and then Bryggen, the original trading area of the city... The real charm is the many little allyways that lead to many more shops and we had some fantastic retail therapy. Back to the ship, after 16,000 steps. Dinner at the Tuscan again, a Trivia session then a well deserved sleep.
